Lionel Messi: Cristiano Ronaldo form doesn’t worry Barcelona star for ONE reason – report

The two superstars continue to battle it out each season, with the winner scooping the Ballon d’Or at the end of each year.

Messi started the 2017/18 season in electric form, and Barcelona raced into what now looks like an unassailable lead at the top of La Liga.

Real Madrid have been struggling, however.

Zinedine Zidane’s men got off to a terrible start after Ronaldo was suspended for pushing a referee during a cup match with Barcelona.

The Portuguese forward then failed to shine upon returning in September.

But the former Manchester United man is now only six goals behind his counterpart after a strong second half of the season.

However, according to Don Balon, Messi isn’t worried due to one reason.

The Spanish publication claims the Barcelona forward isn’t interested in Ronaldo’s revival because he believes the winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or will be decided at the World Cup in Russia.

Messi singled handedly secured his country’s place at the tournament this summer.

Argentina were minutes away from winning the competition in 2014 before Mario Gotze won the final for Germany.

It is the only big accolade in the game which Messi hasn’t won.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, led his Portugal side to Euro 2016 glory in France.
