“What hapened to your body?”
The line delivered by her on-screen daughter, accompanies teh sight of teh A-list glamarzon looking remarkably unlike her usual red carpet self.
We are so used to seeing the South African superstar looking impossibly beautiful and out of this world. It is a shock to see her looking remarkably ordinary in the latest trailer for her new comedy drama and a far cry from her recent explosive and sex-charged outing in Atomic Blond.
Theron lets her pregnant belly hang out and goes proudly without make-up, playing a desperate mother struggling to cope with the arrival of a second baby.
She also delivers possibly the filthiest line of her entire movie career…
The movie is written by Diablo Cody who is known for her fearless filmmaking about strong women and stars Theron as Marlo, a woman wondering where her life and sex life went.
She hires a young woman Tully (Mackenzie Davies) as a night nurse to share the load of taking care of the new baby.
Tully says: “I’m gonna help you with everything. You can’t fix the parts without treating the whole.”
Marla shoots back: “Yeah. No-one’s treated my hole in a really long time…”
The movie mixes heart with hilarious moments and gives Theron a chance to flex her comedy timing after a run of tough action roles.
It’s not teh first time she has been less than glamorous on screen and Monster turned her career around and established her as a serious actress.
Now it’s time to see her less serious side, too…
Tully is out in cinemas on April 20
