Virgin Media customers got some incredibly good news this week.
First of all, the company announced plans to update more than two million customers’ television set-top box for free.
The new scheme is set to one of the largest customer upgrade programmes ever carried out in the UK.
Virgin Media is handing out its flagship TV V6 box, which boasts 4K Ultra HD compatibility as well as the ability to six shows simultaneously, to anyone with an ageing TiVo box.
Best of all, the top-of-the-line TV V6 is capable of syncing up to the TiVo – playing recordings from the latter, as well as sharing hard-drive space.

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.
The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.
Anyone who pays for a Virgin TV and broadband bundle will be able to upgrade their older set-top box for Virgin TV’s nifty new V6 box at no additional cost.
Incredibly, Virgin Media won’t even make you commit to a new contract when you receive your all-new TV V6 hardware.
You’ll simply be able to swap-out your older Virgin TV set-top box for the all-new flagship hardware and continue watching.
Virgin says the vast majority of TV customers will be able to self-install the TV V6 into their existing set-up – avoiding the need for an engineer visit.
Eligible customers will be contacted in the coming weeks with details of how they can request their V6 box.
Chief Digital Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media, David Bouchier said: “We believe that our finest kit shouldn’t just be for new customers.
“So today we’re kicking off one of the largest existing customer upgrade programmes ever seen in the UK, accelerating the rollout of our best ever set-top box.
“Our customers tell us how much they love using the V6 box and watch more TV when they have one.
“As a central entertainment hub, fired by our superior ultrafast broadband, the V6 is built for apps and the best on-demand TV experience – whether its iPlayer, Netflix or thousands of Box Sets.
“Rightfully, our customers expect the best, and with top-notch TV to lightning-fast broadband, that’s exactly what they are getting.”
The upgrade scheme follows a similar roll-out for Virgin Media broadband customers.
First launched in November 2017, Virgin is slowing upgrading the top speeds of over a million of our broadband customers.
This speed boost should help Virgin Media subscribers to do more simultaneously with their connectivity at home – from playing multiplayer video games online, streaming television and films.
Eligible customers will be emailed about the free upgrade.
The roll-out is being staggered across the UK, so it could take a while before you’re notified.
Those who receive the email will need to log in to “My Virgin Media” to activate the upgrade. Instructions on how to do this will be provided in the email.
