PUBG news: Xbox One update, Battlegrounds PS4 release and Steam patch reveal

Fans of PUBG on Xbox One have seen a flurry of activity since the game was launched in 2017.

A series of new Battlegrounds updates have been launched to improve the game, which came in for some flack when it was first launched.

Most of these patches have looked to improve the quality of the game, as well as remove a list of annoying bugs.

And the latest, which was released earlier this week, was no different, applying new changes to the version on Xbox One.

A message from Bluehole Inc. confirms: “As part of that update, we have decided to include some additional performance and gameplay improvements, as well as a new controller option.

“We want to thank our community for the continued feedback and look forward to the discussion that the changes below bring.”

One of the most notable changes that players will find straight away is that Pistols have been removed from Y button’s weapon rotation and grouped with the melee weapon.

However, other optimisation changes have also been made to the game.

Bluehole have also identified two other changes that are being worked on for a future build of the game.

These Battlegrounds bug fixes include:

  • Dropping objects causes the player to switch weapons.
  • User is unable to switch grenade types when tapping right on the D-Pad.

PUBG is proving incredibly popular on Xbox One, as Microsoft reveals an amazing new sales stat.

In a move that’s likely to make Sony and PS4 owners green with envy, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg revealed that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has 3 million players on Xbox One.

“Since PUBG launched on Xbox One through the Xbox Game Preview program it’s been awesome to see the excitement and passion on display from the Xbox community,” Greenberg writes.

“Whether you’re streaming in the HypeZone on Mixer or battling for a chicken dinner with your squad, players on Xbox are helping build and improve the game on console.

“Today, PUBG Corp. and Xbox are excited to share that through the end of 2017 the PUBG community on Xbox One has already grown to over three million players. Thank you for your incredible support!”

It’s unclear how many units PUBG has sold, but it’s clearly a big hit with Xbox One owners. It’s so popular that it sold 1 million units within 48 hours of going on sale.

A new PUBG PS4 release date update also surfaced this week, revealing just how long fans might be left waiting on the popular PlayStation console.

Right now, the PC and the Xbox One is the only place to play Battlegrounds – but that could all change later this year.

Chang Han Kim, the CEO of PUBG developer PUBG Corp, gave a boost to PS4 and Nintendo Switch fans hoping for a Battlegrounds release.

He said that he hopes PUBG will one day be available on “every platform”.

Speaking to InvenGlobal, he said: “As it’s going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, we’d like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now.

“If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform.”

However, as noted above, it appears PUBG won’t be arriving on PS4, or any other new platform, until the Xbox One version has reached an almost complete stage.

PUBG Battlegrounds has also been given a huge new update on PC.

Following a period of maintenance, the new PUBG update is headlined by two new loot crates packed with items.

The new items can be found by opening Biker crates and Desperado crates, the latter of which requires paid keys to unlock.

Unlockables include new gloves, boots, jeans, glasses, hats and jackets.

Unfortunately, however, while the most common items have a 15% drop rate, the rarest gear only drops 0.01% of the time.

That’s true of the brown and black Sleeveless Biker Jackets, as well as the checkered Cloth Mask.

Elsewhere, the Leopard Cloth Mask has a 0.16% chance of dropping, while the Aviator Goggles only have a 0.03% chance of being discovered.
