Anyone who bought a OnePlus 5 earlier this year may have been left a little bemused when the Chinese tech firm recently announced a big new update.
The OnePlus 5T was revealed in November, just six months after the original OnePlus 5 hit online stores.
This latest 5T flagship brings a number of improvements over its predecessor including a stunning AMOLED 6.01-inch edge-to-edge screen, better camera and rear fingerprint scanner.
With these new features the OnePlus 5T is one of the best smartphones of 2017 especially as it lands in your pocket for under £450 – You can read our full OnePlus 5T review here.
Despite OnePlus clearly wanting its loyal followers to upgrade to the 5T it seems the firm hasn’t forgotten about all the army of fans who purchased the older OnePlus 5.

In a festive tweet, posted on Christmas Eve, OnePlus boss Carl Pei revealed: “Due to popular demand, Face Unlock is coming for the OnePlus 5.
“Thanks for the feedback, and merry Christmas!”
There’s no word on when this security feature will arrive on the OnePlus 5 but it will be a welcomed addition to this popular device.
Face Unlock allows users to simply double tap the screen, look into the camera, and smoothly access their phone in seconds.
In fact, OnePlus boasts that their advanced facial recognition software takes less than 0.5 seconds to scan a face.
The firm also states that Face Unlock will even recognise a users whether they are wearing a hat or glasses.
Facial recognition is becoming the next big security feature with Apple and Samsung both including this feature on their latest smartphones.
Apple’s Face ID is perhaps the most advanced as it uses a state-of-the-art TrueDepth camera system with advanced technologies to accurately map the geometry of a users face.
Samsung is expected to add something similar to its new S9 although, unlike Apple’s iPhone X, this next Galaxy device also looks set to include a fingerprint scanner.
