BREAKING: Police respond to ‘active shooter’ in Pennsylvania amid reports of shots fired

Earlier it was reported that an active shooter was on the loose, but Harrisburg Police captain Olivera has now confirmed that the suspect is down, but officers are unable to approach the body due to a “device”.

Roads near the front of the State Capitol Complex have been closed  and pictures from the scene show a heavy police presence.

According to authorities, a car travelling along 3rd Street fired at a Capitol police vehicle near the State Capitol Complex.

Troy Thompson, a spokesman for the Capitol Police force, said: “Our officer is ok, he wasn’t injured. He’s in good shape.”

A witness at the scene, Dan Myers, said he heard a series of gunshots around 4pm (9pm GMT).

Mr Myers added he then saw a car occupied by at least two individuals speeding down State to Third Street when a second round of shots were fired.

There have also been reports of shots being fired at 17th and Mulberry streets – it has been suggested the two incidents may be linked.
