Tiger Woods: I’ve never seen the former world champion so happy – Justin Thomas

The world number three has also backed Tiger Woods to rewind the clock and start competing at the top end of the leaderboards in a Major once again.

Woods has spent the last couple of years sidelined with a back injury which required surgery, but he made his comeback in Barbados by thoroughly impressing with a ninth-placed finish in an 18-man field.

There is now talk that the 41-year-old will make an appearance at the Masters in April.

And Thomas, who played the final round of the Hero World Challenge alongside Woods, would like to see the legend return to the sport for good next year.

“If he plays healthy, I think he’ll have a great year,” Thomas told Reuters.

“It’s hard to not hype it up or talk about this or that but in reality we need to see what happens because no one knows.

“He was just so happy (at the World Challenge), which was cool to see.

“I’ve spent some time with him the last couple of years and I’ve never seen him so happy … having so much fun and grinding it out and playing well.”

Thomas himself has had a strong finish to this year by winning the PGA Championship.

He also won four other events but is now preparing for 2018 – starting with the defence of his Tournament of Champions title in two weeks’ time – but not before he has rested and recovered.

“When you do win, it takes so much out of you,” he added.

“It was such a crazy end of the year. It caught up to me.”
