Star Wars 8 Last Jedi for OSCARS? 13 cast members officially enter awards race

Mark Hamill has allegedly been submitted for Best Actor, with Daisy Ridley in the line for Best Actress.

Six stars have been submitted for Best Supporting Actor: Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Benicio Del Toro, Andy Serkis and Domhnall Gleeson.

Four others are on the ballot for Best Supporting Actress: Gwendoline Christie, Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran and the late Carrie Fisher.

Blockbusters like Star Wars are very rarely recognised by major awards shows such as the Oscars, so it’ll be interesting to see if voters’ heads are actually turned by any of these performances.

Hamill, for one, has already picked up a lot of buzz from the early screenings, with many rushing to praise his performance as Luke Skywalker.

Tran has also come in for praise; with one critic saying she’s the “new heart” of the franchise.

In addition to the cast, the film has been submitted for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay (both Rian Johnson), Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Score.

Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman have also submitted it for the top honour of Best Picture.

This is all according to Twitter user Clayton Davis, who specialises in awards season news.

The Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 4, 2018; with the nominations announcement on Tuesday, January 23.

The voting window for members is January 5 to January 12, so right when Star Wars: The Last Jedi is at the forefront of the moviegoing audience’s consciousness.

The film is out this Thursday in the UK.
