Destiny 2 free-to-play trial going LIVE on PS4, Xbox One after Bungie fan backlash

2 is getting a free-to-play trial on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Activision and Bungie are yet to reveal an exact time, stating only that the Destiny 2 free trial will be available on all platforms at some point later today (November 28).

“Team up with friends or play solo and experience your first steps in the epic cinematic-filled campaign, explore new worlds, and face off in competitive multiplayer,” Bungie reveals.

The Destiny 2 trial will give newcomers a chance to check out campaign missions on the European Dead Zone and the moon of Titan.

The free trial also includes access to player-vs-player multiplayer in the Crucible Quickplay Playlist, as well as Clan functionality.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

Players can progress to level 7, while any gameplay progression will carry over to the full release.

Perhaps this is Bungie’s way of addressing recent backlash to the game’s controversial XP system.

Fans were unhappy to discover that progression bars don’t always fill up as quickly as they should.

We’ve seen community discussion around XP gain in Destiny,” Bungie said.

“After reviewing our data, we agree that the system is not performing the way we’d like it to. Today, we’d like to describe what’s going on under the hood, and talk about what you can expect going forward when it comes to earning XP in Destiny 2.

“Currently, XP will scale up when playing longer or fixed duration activities like Crucible competitive multiplayer matches and the Leviathan Raid, and XP will scale down when playing activities that can be quickly, repeatedly chained, like grinding Public Events.”

“We are not happy with the results, and we’ve heard the same from the community. Effective immediately, we are deactivating this system.”

Fans have since discovered that despite disabling the system, the amount of XP required to reach the next level has now doubled.

Bungie continued: “As a result, players will see XP earn rates change for all activities across the board, but with all values being displayed consistently in the user interface.

“Over the course of the next week, we will be watching and reviewing XP game data to ensure that these changes meet our expectations, as well as yours.”
