ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported earlier this evening that Rose is “away” from the team and was evaluating his future in basketball.
The news comes in the wake of Rose suffering another injury setback, this time a left ankle injury.
The 29-year-old’s career has stagnated since tearing his ACL in Chicago’s opening game of the playoffs in 2012.
There was some hope he could rediscover his form with the Cavaliers after signing a veteran’s minimum contract.
But he has missed 11 of the Cavaliers’ 18 games this season and frustration with his current injury problems has led the point guard to questioning his desire to continue playing.

Cleveland continued their upturn in form tonight with a close win over the Charlotte Hornets with LeBron James registering is 57th career triple-double.
The four-time MVP was asked after the game what he made of Rose’s situation, to which he thought former US president Roosevelt explained best with his “Man in the Arena” speech.
James said: “It’s easy to criticise somebody where you… At the end of the day my favourite quote of all time is Theodore Roosevelt’s ‘Man in the Arena’.
“If you don’t know about it, read it. It’s my favourite quote.
“Anybody can sit outside the arena and criticise the man in the arena that’s giving his blood, sweat and tears.
“But until you walk in the face of the battle or adversity you don’t understand.
“I understand as a professional athlete but I can never understand what he’s going through because it’s his life.
“What I do understand is I want him to be happy.”
