When do the clocks go back THIS WEEKEND? The time the clocks change in 2017 REVEALED

The changing of the clocks at the weekend means that more people will have to go home in the dark as the days get shorter next week.

When do the clocks go back?

Britain’s clocks will go back at 2am on the last Sunday of October, Sunday October 29 2017. The changing of the clocks means an hour longer in bed.

The clocks going back also mark the end of British Summer Time (BST) as Britain reverts to Greenwich Meantime Time (GMT) for winter.

The idea of setting the clocks ahead was first suggested in an essay by Benjamin Franklin in 1784.

Over a century later, Englishman William Willett campaigned for the changing of the clocks in a pamphlet, called the Waste of Daylight, in 1907.

Britain first adopted British Summer Time during World War One in order to save fuel by reducing the need for artificial light.

Changing the clocks also gave farmers more daylight in the morning so that they could start work in the fields earlier.

But there have been calls to scrap it entirely because of the negative impact of nights drawing in so early during winter

When will the clocks go forward?

The clocks will go forward on March 25. This will mark the end of GMT and the start of BST again.

When do the clocks go back in the US?

The clocks go back an hour at 2am on Sunday November 5. This marks the end of Daylight Saving Time.
