Brett Cowan, who is serving a life sentence for the abduction, rape and murder of 13-year-old Daniel Morcombe, was taken to hospital with burns to 15 per cent of his body.
Adam Davidson, 31, launched an attack on Cowan while he was playing cards at Wolston Correctional Centre in Australia’s Queensland.
The court heard how Davidson filled up a mop bucket from a hot water urn before tripping it over the paedophile’s head.
As Cowan screamed “why, why why?” Davidson then struck his head with the bucket “three or four times”.
Davidson told investigators the attack on was a “little bit of retribution”.

The schoolboy’s remains were found in August 2011 after police prompted Cowan to confess and lead officers to where he dumped his victim’s body.
