‘I don’t know what no deal means’ Juncker lashed for having NO PLAN for hard Brexit

During the final press conference of the 2017 EU Summit, Mr Juncker, the European Parliament president, intially refused to speak about Brexit but then launched into an attack on the British Government and its lack of clarity over a ‘no deal’.

He said: “Nothing on Brexit, I’m not going to say anything as there isn’t anything to say on Brexit.”

His shocking refusal came less than an hour after British Prime Minister Theresa May gave a bland speech in which she said little, but hinted the Brexit deadlock which she had hoped to lift over the two-day summit, was still very much on.

However, minutes later, he was asked about Brexit and did not hold back, saying the EU’s Brexit negotiator had not used the word ‘deadlock’ enough in his speech.

Mr Juncker, said: “In my rhetoric I would have used the word deadlock four times.

“Having had a look, only superficial, because you have to be as superficial as the British press is, our situation is not a no deal scenario.

“I don’t know what that means. Nobody explained to me what a no deal was until today.

“I am not in favour of no deal, I want to have a fair deal with Britain.”

After being pressed on claiming he did not know what a ‘no deal’ means, he added: “When I said no one had explained to me what a no deal meant, I meant that no member of the UK delegation has explained what a no deal means.

“We in the EU Commission, myself and Donald Tusk, know perfectly well what a no deal may mean.

“Nobody explains in detail what they mean.

“It’s some kind of British way of carrying out collective education because nobody explained in the first place, to the British people, what Brexit actually meant.

“The Commission does not want a no deal situation, we’re working hard for a fair and just deal.”
