PUBG vs Fortnite: Could this change everything for the jewell in the Xbox One crown?

PUBG is showing no signs of slowing down, although the success of Fortnite could soon change everything.

A new SteamSpy report (via DualShockers) suggests that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has sold a staggering 15 million copies.

It’s also expected to pass 2 million concurrent players on Steam, having this weekend.

PUBG will be released on Xbox One later this year, while PS4 owners may have to wait until next summer.

The delay is good news for Fortnite, which has swooped in early and made a big impression.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

In fact, according to Epic Games, Fortnite’s free Battle Royale mode reached 525k concurrent players over all platforms this weekend.

“Fortnite BR Sunday Update: 525K PCU and 3.7M DAU (NA, EU, OCE)! Thanks everyone!”

It’s a far cry from PUBG, but still pretty impressive considering it only launched a couple of weeks ago.

Battlegrounds takes place on a remote island where 100 players compete to be the sole survivor.

Similar to games like DayZ, players must gather supplies, armour and weapons in order to defeat other players.

And in a unique twist, the battleground actually gets smaller as games go on.

“Players will enter a last-man-standing battle where they try to locate weapons, vehicles and supplies in a graphically and tactically rich battleground that eventually forces players into a shrinking play zone as they engage in a tense and spectacular fight to the death,” reads a Bluehole statement.

The free-to-play Fortnite Battle Royale, meanwhile, can be downloaded on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Taking place on a huge map, Fortnite also supports 100 players in multiplayer, as users compete to be the last person standing.

“Fortnite Battle Royale is the completely free 100-player PvP mode in Fortnite,” the official description reads.

“One giant map. A battle bus. Fortnite building skills and destructible environments combined with intense PvP combat. The last one standing wins.”
