Forget Nintendo’s SNES Classic, here’s the next Mini console worth the pre order battle

Having made such a splash earlier this year, the SNES Classic is now available to buy.

Actually finding one available online is quite difficult, although Nintendo have promised that more stock will be available in the coming months.

The current situation in the UK seems to be that the mini console is currently out of stock at all retailers.

Since then SNES Classic Mini fans in the UK have had to turn to international websites if they wanted to pick up a pint-sized console.

Amazon France, Amazon Germany and Amazon Spain seem to be the best stocked online retailers for the SNES Classic Mini in Europe recently.

The trio have opened orders for the SNES Classic Mini numerous times since its launch.

This could prove far too much hassle for many fans who aren’t prepared to put up with the added faff of shipping and adaptor plugs.

So it might be worth checking out some of the other mini models coming to the market soon.

It was recently announced that a Mini Commodore 64 is releasing next year.

The C64 Mini has a release window set for early 2018 and will retail at $70/£70.

Like the SNES Classic, the Mini Commodore 64 will come with a selection of pre-loaded games, adding up to 64 in total.

“Launched in 1982, the C64 home computer went on to dominate the home computer scene throughout the 1980s,” the official description reads.

“Millions of units were sold across the world and have a special place in the hearts of its former owners.

“35 years later and it’s back. THEC64® Mini plugs into any modern TV via its HDMI port and gamers can play any one of the 64 licensed classic pre-installed games. This includes games from original legendary developers such as Epyx, Gremlin Graphics, Hewson and The Bitmap Brothers; and boasting titles such as California Games, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe, Paradroid and Impossible Mission.

“Most of these were rated over 90% by leading publications of the day, with many winning coveted awards. From sports to shooters, platformers to puzzlers, there’s a plethora of titles to keep the most discerning retro enthusiast happy.”

Retro Games Limited have also confirmed that the Mini Console will be able to plug in a standard USB PC keyboard and be used as a classic C64 to type in those old BASIC computer listings or program new games.

2018 will also see the NES Classic Mini return to stores for a limited run, slated for the summer.

You can be sure that more Mini consoles will be announced next year, we’ve already had miniature versions of the Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis launched, albeit with differing reviews.
