Property provides the largest chunk of this, including £107million Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands, £49million Sandringham and various farms and marine land across the UK.

The estates she owns were inherited from her father, King George VI.

The Queen also owns one of the world’s largest stamp collections, built up by her grandfather.

An annual government stipend of around £9.8million adds to her wealth.

Some of this is taxpayers’ money, known as the Sovereign Grant, with the rest coming from the Duchy of Lancaster which is another collection of properties (separate to the Crown Estate) used to generate the Queen’s private income.

But it doesn’t end there. The Queen also has private collections of valuable furniture and jewellery, which Forbes estimates at £84million.

The Queen Mother left her daughter a fortune of between £50 – £70million after her death in 2002.

The Crown Estate, which is not included in the net worth of the Queen, includes £7.6billion worth of property such as Buckingham Palace.

It also includes the extensive Royal Art collection, worth £10billion.

Royal families around the world enjoy vast wealth, and that includes Queen Letizia of Spain, 44.

Letizia was born in Oviedo, Asturias to a middle-class family. While she trained as a journalist and worked for the likes of TVE, Letizia’s net worth has shot up considerably since marrying King Felipe VI.
