Turner told HeyUGuys last month: “It’s strange [to see] but it’s fun as well, when it’s this good.
“It’s a wonderful film, I think, and not a lot of writers of books are going to say that about a book going to the screen.
“I just think Paul has made an incredible film – and the performances, Annete Bening and Jamie Bell… together it’s a sizzling on-screen romance.
“I see it as my story being told, it’s a very faithful adaptation and I’m very lucky that the screenwriter has done a wonderful job and he was very brave and he kept a lot of dialogues from the book, scenes from the book.”
He added: “So it’s the same story and it’s kind of told in a different medium. We met only once, we talked a lot on the phone… everything fell into place.”
Grahame died at age 57 in 1981, after a second battle with cancer.
