Klopp on Coutinho
05:00: Jurgen Klopp has revealed he always planned to take Philippe Coutinho off at half-time in Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat in the Carabao Cup last night.
“I know football long enough, and if you don’t defend these two situations well enough you give the opponent a chance to score. And that was obviously the case,” Klopp told talkSPORT.
“The first half was brilliant without scoring – unlucky in one or two moments I would say – but that’s how it is in football.

“If you don’t score you have to carry on and you will score in one moment.
“The second half it was clear we were not that fluent, because we took Phil off – as was the plan from before the game.”
Can contract update
04:30: Emre Can is yet to commit his long-term future to Liverpool with his contract running out at the end of the season.
The 23-year-old admitted towards the end of last term the reason he hadn’t signed a new contract at Anfield wasn’t down to money and was happy to remain at the club.
But The Sun claim negotiations have reached an impasse because the two parties cannot agree on a release clause.
It is reported Liverpool are not prepared to include what they consider to be a low release clause.
However, they run the risk of losing the midfielder for free at the end of the season and could be forced to cash in on him when the window reopens in the New Year.
Gomez slammed for Leicester display
04:00: Joe Gomez is not the answer to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s problems at centre-back, according to Steve Nicol.
Gomez, 20, was drafted in at centre-back by Jurgen Klopp in a much-changed side to face Leicester in the Carabao Cup last night.
But despite a good first half performance, Liverpool were unable to make the pressure tell as they lost 2-0 to the Foxes in the third round at the King Power Stadium.
“The one thing I wanted to see was Joe Gomez at centre-back because there is no question that’s where Liverpool’s problem is, but unfortunately he failed,” Nicol told ESPN FC.
“He was involved in a couple of the goals, if he made better decisions they could’ve been avoided, so right now I’m scoring him off the list.”
