Elon Musk revealed his thoughts on what will start World War 3 via a post on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR). He starts off by linking to a story from The Verge concerning Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Artificial intelligence is the future, not only for Russia, but for all humankind,” Putin said in a quote acquired by The Verge. “It comes with colossal opportunities, but also threats that are difficult to predict. Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world.”

“China, Russia, soon all countries w strong computer science. Competition for AI superiority at national level most likely cause of WW3 imo. May be initiated not by the country leaders, but one of the AI’s, if it decides that a prepemptive strike is most probable path to victory.”
While Elon Musk is predicting that artificial intelligence will be a danger to humans, not everyone in tech agrees. One such person is Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) CEO Mark Zuckerberg. He claims that Musk’s comments concerning dangerous AI are “pretty irresponsible.” Musk has argued that the FB CEO only has a “limited” understanding of the field, reports MarketWatch.
The United States and China are already researching using AI in warfare. Russia also has an interest in the technology and Putin believes that future wars will focus on drones.
