FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch: EA gives fans the news they want to hear

FIFA 18 could be the first of many EA Sports games to release on Nintendo Switch.

With Nintendo Switch selling out fast and fans keen to play FIFA 18 on the go, EA Sports has suggested that the series will return in the future.

This could also open the door for other EA games to appear on the console.

Asked if fans could expect more FIFA games on Switch, EA Sports producer Andrei Lazarescu told Gamespot: “I think we are going to see more FIFA on Switch in the future.”

He also believes that FIFA 18 is the best portable version of the game ever produced, even if the Switch version does make sacrifices.

One of those sacrifices is the removal of story mode The Journey, which requires the Frostbite Engine.

Lazarescu explains more: “The Journey is a mode powered by Frostbite [the engine that current-gen versions of the game run on], it only exists because of Frostbite – they are not separate.

“You can’t just [put it on Switch] without taking the whole Frostbite engine. So because this doesn’t have Frostbite, it doesn’t have The Journey.”

Giving fans a small glimmer of hope for the future, Lazarescu said that it could happen if Frostbite ever comes to Switch.

“If we moved the [Switch] game over to Frostbite, then yes it could happen. But I don’t know if that’s going to happen. Frostbite is a very different beast.”

FIFA 18 has a September 29 release date on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Fans recently discovered a new feature that will make transfers more exciting in Career Mode.

In a bid to spice up player transfers and transfer deadline day, EA Sports will introduce interactive negotiations.

The real-time transfer negotiations let you speak to agents, players and managers about doing business.

With dialogue options and face-to-face negotiations, it should make transfers much more interesting and add some much needed personality to the game.
