Overwatch NEWS: Season 6 start; Mercy, Junkertown UPDATE; Team deathmatch map release

Overwatch Competitive Season 6 has started on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The new Overwatch season launches with a whole new set of changes designed to make it more exciting.

The big change is that Season 6 will only last two months instead of three, which means it will end on October 31.

As game director Jeff Kaplan told fans, this will make it feel like less of a grind and ultimately a bit more exciting. Points will be adjusted to account for the shorter season.

Blizzard is also addressing the issue some players have with skill decay and skill placement.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

After artificially lowering skill placements to create a sense of progression, Blizzard will now place people at the appropriate level from the start.

Likewise, skill decay won’t be quite so severe in Overwatch Competitive Season 6.

Diamond level players will only need to play five games a week to avoid decay, and the number of points deducted will be reduced from 50 to 25.

On the downside, higher level players might have to wait longer to find games, as Blizzard tries to better balance teams.

High level players will also be moved to lower skill tiers if they can’t maintain the minimum skill rating for that tier.

Overwatch fans have a new map and a couple of new modes to try out on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

After testing them out in the PTR on PC, Blizzard has released two new deathmatches in full.

Deathmatch sees eight players go head-to-head. The first player to rack up 20 points wins, with one point awarded for a kill and one point deducted when they accidentally die to environmental damage.

Team Deathmatch sees two teams of four compete to earn 30 points for the win.

“If players are resurrected before they respawn, the corresponding point for their death will be deducted from the enemy team’s score,” Blizzard explains. “This scoring will be tracked in our default scoreboard. The first team to 30 points wins!”

The new modes can be played on a brand new map called Château Guillard, which is owned by Widowmaker.

Overwatch developer Blizzard is currently testing one or two big additions in the Public Test Realm on PC.

PC owners can check out the Junkertown map, which is a brand new Escort arena set in the Australian Outback.

The winding map is currently being tested ahead of a full release date on PS4 and Xbox One.

Blizzard is also making huge changes to Mercy, who will soon be able to resurrect allies on an individual basis.

Blizzard explains:  “While resurrecting downed allies is a core part of Mercy’s gameplay, the way her Ultimate functioned was causing a number of problems.

“It was frustrating to play against, and it incentivized Mercy players to hide away from important battles, instead of taking part in them. This version turns Resurrect into a single target ability.

“It’s still an important part of Mercy’s kit, but plays much better for both Mercy players and her enemies.

“Valkyrie, her new Ultimate, gives her the opportunity to make big game-making plays and opens a number of new options for her.”
