iPhone 8 and Note 8 getting surprise new rival from this tablet computer pioneer

Apple’s and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 are two of the most highly anticipated smartphones releases on the horizon.

But the two powerhouse have got a surprise new contender that looks set to throw their hat into the ring.

The Palm Pilot could be making a staggering comeback, with the veteran handheld PCs being revived for the smartphone market.

Chinese electronics company TCL recently began their attempts to revive the Blackberry brand, with the launch of the KEYone smartphone.

And it looks like they’re eyeing up another classic tech name to try to bring back to its former glory days – Palm.

Android Planet reported that TCL, who bought the Palm name back in 2014, could be bringing out a new range of Palm devices next year.

TCL acquired the Palm name four years after HP bought the brand and then shuttered products a year later.

It was a sad end for the brand that lead the late 90s and 2000s consumer device markets with its PDAs and early smartphones.

But now TCL looks set to release a number of devices under the Palm name next year.

The company’s marketing manager Stefan Streit revealed the news in an interview with Android Planet.

While he would not say what kind of devices would be released, he teased that smartphones could be a possibility.

Streit said instead of an overhaul of the brand for new consumers, the latest Palm devices would be geared towards users familiar with Palm products.

9to5Google reported that its likely the revived Palm Pilot will run Android, just like TCL’s KEYone Blackberry phone.

The last Palm branded device to come out was the Palm Pre 2, which was announced and released in October 2010.

If Palm launch a smartphone, it remains to be seen whether it will be able to make an impact with the Apple iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 on the horizon.

Apple yesterday sent invites out their next big event, which is believed to be the iPhone 8 launch.

The grand unveiling will take place on September 12 at Apple’s new headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Rumours are rife that Apple has completely redesigned its next flagship to feature a giant edge-to-edge display which will cover almost the entire front of the phone.

An updated glass and metal finish will allow the device to be charged wirelessly and a new A11 processor could bring one of the most smooth experiences ever to a smartphone.

Other features expected to land on the iPhone 8 include iris/facial recognition, which will unlock the device just by glancing at it, and an updated dual-lens rear camera.

While last week Samsung unveiled the highly anticipated Galaxy Note 8.

The phablet will feature a new 6.3-inch Infinity Display, a refreshed S Pen and a dual-lens camera set-up.

It will launch on September 15, just a few days after the big Apple iPhone 8 event.
