It’s one of the best loved trilogies of all time, but did you spot the Princess Diana Easter Egg?
Released in 1989, Back to the Future Part II saw Marty McFly and Doc Brown time travel to 2015.
Apart from the hover boards and flying cars, another failed – and particularly awkward – prediction was that Diana would be Queen that year.
The blink and you’ll miss it moment is when Marty is looking at a copy of USA Today from October 22, 2015, featuring his future son being jailed.
Among other headlines on the newspaper is: “Queen Diana will visit Washington.”

The line is sad on three counts of course because not only did Charles and Diana divorce in 1996 and the Princess of Wales tragically die 20 years ago today, but the writers of Back to the Future assumed Her Majesty The Queen would have died by 2015.
When the date from the movie passed two years ago, USA Today released the fictional front page but decided to remove the Queen Diana reference. Nevertheless they did keep the headline, “President says she’s tired of reporters asking the same questions”, when Obama was in office.
He said: “I would love to do Doc again, no question. It’s tough to come up with an idea that contains the excitement of the original three.
“So it would be a real challenge for the writers to come up with an original Back to the Future story that has the same passion and intensity and excitement as the other three. But it could be done, you never know.”
