EU SNUBBED as Japanese PM hails ‘profound trust’ in post-Brexit UK economy

Speaking during a joint press conference with Theresa May in Tokyo, aired on Sky News, the leader called for the UK to have a “smooth and successful” divorce from the bloc.

He also called on the Prime Minister to ensure “transparency” between Britain and Japan to minimise any impact on Japanese businesses in the UK.

He told reporters: “The fact that after the decision on , Japanese companies are continuing to make new investments into the United Kingdom, which shows the profound trust that Japanese companies have toward the British economy.

“It is important for the world economy to realise [a] Brexit from the EU which is smooth and successful  – with this in mind I have asked Prime Minister May for her continued consideration for ensuring transparency and predictability so as to minimise its impact on the business activities including the Japanese companies.

“We also agreed to have further enhancement of the dialog between the two nations for the strengthening of the bilateral economic relations after the Brexit.”

Mrs May praised the relationship between the two nations and insisted they were “natural partners” as the third round of exit talks got underway in Brussels.

She said: “The UK and Japan are natural partners, we share common interests as outward-looking, democratic, free trading island-nations with global reach.”

The Prime Minister the praised Japanese businesses making assurances to the UK after EU referendum result.

“Nissan, Toyota and SoftBank, in particular, have made commitments to the UK since the EU referendum in a powerful vote of confidence in the long term strength of the UK economy,” she said.

She also said the two countries were working on a “new economic partnership” in order to ensure the “freest trading relationship” between the two.
