Jameela Jamil Comes Out After Backlash For Being Named Lead Judge Of Voguing Show ‘Legendary’

The actress, best known for her role in The Good Place, has come out as queer. In a post on social media, Jameela Jamil also opened up about the reason why she waited until the age of 33 to make her sexuality public, admitting that, as ‘a brown female actor,’ it was a really ‘scary’ thing to do.

Earlier today, Jameela posted a long announcement on her Twitter in which she not only revealed that she is ‘queer’ but also opened up about the reason why she waited so long and why she felt like it was finally the time.

As you may know, the beautiful actress was named the lead judge on HBO Max’s voguing competition show Legendary and some people were not happy about it since it’s all about LGBTQ culture.

A lot of users were upset that she got such a big role on the show even though she was supposedly not part of the community.

That being said, Jameela felt like it was finally the time for her to reveal the truth about her sexuality.

‘Twitter is brutal. This’s why I never officially came out as queer. I just added a rainbow to my name a few years ago, as it is not easy to be accepted within the south Asian community, and I always answered honestly if ever asked about it on Twitter. But I still kept it low because I was scared of all the pain of being accused of bandwagon jumping, over something that caused me a lot of confusion and fear and turmoil when I was just a kid,’ she explained.

She went on to talk about her background, saying that ‘I did not come from a family with *anyone* openly out. It is also scary as an actor to openly reveal your sexuality, especially when you are already a brown female in your thirties. This is absolutely not how I wanted to come out.’

Jameela finally told her followers that she’ll be leaving the platform for a while since she did not want to read any comments from people dismissing her identity.
