Why is the Full Moon so big tonight?

Despite the Moon’s deceptive appearance tonight, the lunar orb is only about 98 to 99 percent illuminated.

To the untrained eye, the Moon might appear full and that is always the case for the days immediately preceding and following a Full Moon.

According to NASA’s lunar expert Gordon Johnston, the Moon appears full for about three days centred around the peak.

Mr Johnston said: “The Moon will appear full for about three days centred on this time, from Thursday morning to Sunday morning.”

The NASA expert also revealed tomorrow’s Full Moon coincides with the first lunar eclipse of the year.
