The setting of the ominous exchange, in the presence of top military brass, has sparked speculation Trump’s comments may have been in reference the escalating situation in Korea.
North Korea accused the US of provocation after US bombers flew near the countries coast in a show of strength and threatened to unleash nuclear strikes against America.
The US President recently unveiled a tough round of sanctions against the secretive dictatorship in response to Kim Jong-un repeatedly defying the international community.
The hermit kingdom has vowed to continue its pursuit of a nuclear arsenal capable of reaching the US mainland with nuclear and missile tests.
Trump spoke about the secretive state before the meeting saying the “we will do what we must do” to prevent the North Korea threatening the US and its allies.
He continued: “And it will be done, if necessary — believe me.”
He also said he hoped the military leaders to provide a “broad range of military options, when needed, at a much faster pace”.
Reporters also asked if his comment were in relation to ISIS or Iran who he also spoke about with the renewal for the nuclear deal approaching.
