New reports out this week suggest that Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok will be the name of the new game in the popular series.
Rumours that the next AC game would be set in Europe during a Viking period have been circulating for some time.
And now a new report suggests that Ubisoft is working to an early 2020 release date on PS4 and Xbox One.
An earlier online leak reported that the main character would an ally of Ragnar Lodbrok and would help form the Great Heathen Army.
The map was also said to be split into multiple regions, including Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
And this latest leak adds to this narrative, suggesting that Ireland would play a big role in the game.
Another leak is reporting that an Autumn 2020 release date has been set for Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok.
The big news is that Ragnarok will be revealed during a PlayStation event being held in February 2020.
We’ve already heard reports that such an expo is being held to showcase the PS5 and it would make sense for PS4 and Xbox One games to be featured too.
But it should also be noted that both of these leaks remain unverified and offer conflicting information.
That would suggest that at least one of them is telling porkies.
Unless there are some serious time jumps, the game can’t be set during the 9th and 11th Century.
So gamers will have to keep an eye on what Ubisoft starts teasing in early 2020.
Earlier leaks have suggested that there will be a greater emphasis on exploration over ship combat, with the game removing many of the map markers.
And Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok has also been linked to a launch on PS5 and Xbox Scarlett, as well as the PS4 and Xbox One.
This would make sense with the next-gen devices being primed for launch at the end of 2020.
That would make the next Assassin’s Creed game a cross-generation title, something that PlayStation has promised would be happening.
President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan revealed the plans for the PS4 and PS5 switch earlier in 2019.
“Whether it’s backwards compatibility or the possibility of cross-generational play, we’ll be able to transition that community to next-gen,” Ryan confirmed to CNET at the time.
“It won’t be a binary choice about whether you have to be either on PlayStation 4 or next-gen to continue your friendship.”
Adding: “The community has never been bigger and it’s never been more engaged,”
“A lot of people we brought in, in 2013, are still with us. And the amount of time and money they invest in the platform is very humbling.”
So even if these recent Assassin’s Creed 2020 rumour prove to be false, there is still a good chance of PS5 and Xbox Scarlett support being announced.
