Cybertruck, the company’s first armoured vehicle, was unveiled at a glitzy event in Los Angeles.
Musk demonstrated the sloping bodywork of the electric truck’s “ultra-hard shell” with incredible video footage of a bullet disintegrating upon impact.
Then, in front of an audience, a ball bearing dropped from height smashes ordinary glass but bounces off the Tesla-engineered glass.
But then it all went wrong.
Musk asks Tesla’s design chief Franz von Holzhausen to “try to break this glass” by throwing a metal ball the size of an orange.

Von Holzhausen launches it at the side window – only for it to make a massive crack. “Oh my God,” said Musk as the audience erupts with laughter at Thursday night’s event. Recovering, the multi-billionaire continues: “Well, maybe that was a little too hard,” before adding: “It didn’t go through, so that’s a plus.”
Then Von Holzhausen targets the rear passenger window, smashing that one too. “It didn’t go through,” says Musk again, before adding, “Not bad, room for improvement.”
The video of the demo, uploaded on Youtube yesterday, prompted comments from some of the hundreds of thousands of viewers.
Some said the truck looked like a vehicle from the sci-fi film Blade Runner. But another viewer said of Musk: “He didn’t seem to recover once the glass broke…he couldn’t wait to get off stage.”
