Who is Princess Alexandra? Queen’s friend loved by Monarch even wore her wedding tiara?

It’s safe to say that Princess Alexandra, 82, is one of the Queen’s best friends and a member of the Royal Family. Despite the fact there is more than a decade between then, the Queen is 93, they have been close for many years. Alexandra is often by Her Majesty’s side at racing events, the Queen’s favourite leisure events in the calendar. She rode in the Queen’s carriage at Ascot in June.

Alexandra is the Queen’s first cousin, her father was the Queen’s uncle.

Interestingly she is also a second cousin to Prince Charles, Andrew and Edward has her mother was a first cousin of Prince Philip.

The royal was a bridesmaid to her cousin the Queen on her wedding day.

Born Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Kent, since 1988 she has been known as Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy.

The wedding was a lavish event, with a white-tie ball at Windsor Castle held the night before and a breakfast at St James’s Palace after the ceremony, to which they bride and groom travelled in a glass coach.

Alexandra’s wedding dress was lavish, with the yards ad yards of lace used for the dress, veil and train being shipped from France.

She wore the City of London Fringe tiara for her wedding, which was similar – but not the same as – the Queen’s. The Queen wore the Queen Mary fringe tiara for her big day.

On Alexandra’s wedding day the Queen offered her husband the opportunity to become an earl – however, her turned it down. Sir Angus passed away in 2004.

Alexandra and her husband have two children, James Robert Bruce Ogilvy, who has two children Flora and Alexander, and Marina Victoria Alexandra Ogilvy.

Marina caused controversy in 1989 when she became pregnant out of wedlock with her first child Zenouska May Mowatt.

She and her partner, a photographer Paul Mowatt, married in 1990 and had another child, a son Christian. However, they divorced in 1997.

Another best friend of the Queen’s Margaret Rhodes passed away aged 91 in 2016.

She had known the Queen since childhood and was the niece of the Queen Mother.

A source told the Daily Mail: “Make no mistake, this will be a big loss,’ says a royal figure.

“Margaret Rhodes has been part of her life for more than 80 years. The Queen was a regular visitor to Mrs Rhodes’ home.”

Margaret was by the Queen’s side when the Queen Mother passed away.
