Yet despite the achievement, pundit Graeme Souness was quick to pick flaws in their performance.
The former Reds midfielder criticised Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Fabinho after the match, claiming they all look fatigued from the midweek defeat to Napoli in the Champions League.

“There were two different teams because in the first half they were fabulous on the front foot and threatening.
“In the second half, for the last half an hour they were hanging on.
“The midfield couldn’t keep the ball and they were under constant pressure because they were giving the ball away cheaply.
“Salah kept losing the ball stupidly, Mane looks like his legs had gone and for the goal Fabinho looked like he was towing a caravan.
“The only excuse you can offer is that they had a hard game in midweek plus the travelling.
“Chelsea will think that they should have got something from that.”
Liverpool seemed to sit off in the second half and invite the Blues onto them.
N’Golo Kante halved the deficit but Chelsea couldn’t level things up.
Jose Mourinho believes Liverpool were running a huge risk with their approach after the break, and can consider themselves lucky to have another win on the board.
“I think they risked a little bit in that second half,” he said.
“If Chelsea scored that second goal I would say that was a fair result.
“They had a few chances to score the equaliser and I think that would have been a reward for how Chelsea played in the second half.”
