The head of the French channel ports insisted traffic should flow smoothly after Brexit day. He said: ”The British authorities have been doing a great deal to prepare. People say they are asleep but I can assure you that they are highly professional and they are ready. There are certain individuals in the UK who are whipping up this catastrophism for their own reasons.” The President of Port Boulogne Calais used fruity language to dismiss the hysteria and insisted “nothing is going to happen the day after Brexit”.
He said: ”Britain will be a third country, that’s all, and there is no reason why this should lead to any problems.
“If both sides do their homework traffic will be completely fluid.”
Mr Puissesseau admitted that a no-deal Brexit in March would have been a “huge problem” but said they had now had an extra seven months to prepare.
“I have just received a delegation of Polish hauliers – and they are the most important in Europe – and I can tell you that they are perfectly up to speed on everything that has to be done,” he added.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has said the Government is taking “necessary steps” to make sure goods carry on flowing.
It comes after White House official John Bolton declared mini-trade deals could be completed with Britain within 12 months.
The Republican told a press conference in the UK today: “You could pursue a bigger sector that might take longer, or you could pursue some smaller sectors that couldd be done quite quickly.”
He added manufacturing sectors, industry and automobile sectors could be among a cluster of deals, before saying: “That’s my message. We’re with you.”
