According to a report from People.com, the Emmy Awards will not have a host this year at the 2019 ceremony. The FOX CEO, Charlie Collier, made the announcement today on Wednesday, August 7th, that the ceremony would go without a host – similar to the Oscars.
Charlie Collier, the CEO of Fox, said before the crowd at the Television Critics Association tour that the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards would not have a host.
He stated, “it’s been a fascinating thing, we’re so proud to host the Emmys, our job is how to assess how to elevate the program.” Every year, a different network takes on the role of broadcasting the Emmys, typically alternating between NBC, Fox, CBS, and ABC.
The last time the Emmys were on the Fox network was in 2015, four years ago. While discussing the ending of some of the biggest series in the game of the last few years, Mr. Collier stated that he and the rest of the crew want to give a formal goodbye to Empire, Veep, and Game Of Thrones.
The CEO of the network stated it would be a good idea to use the Emmys to celebrate the shows that “are going away.” When asked by an audience member if the Oscars controversy played a role in their decision, the CEO said it was certainly something they took into consideration.

In 2011, Jane Lynch was the last female host for Fox’s Emmy Awards. This comes on the heels of the Academy Awards ceremony, in which Kevin Hart was formerly gearing up to host, however, due to unearthed tweets that the LGBT community found offensive, Kevin had to back out at the last minute.

Kevin initially refused to apologize and chose to rescind on his offer, however, just a few days after it was revealed he backed out, Kevin apologized again to the LGBT community for his past jokes.
