Newcastle player ratings against Brighton: Merino shines but forwards flop at the Amex

Newcastle entered the match looking for their fourth consecutive Premier League victory but came up short as Tomer Hemed’s strike won all three points for Brighton.

Substitute Jonjo Shelvey hit the post from a corner as the Magpies searched for an equaliser, but Chris Hughton’s side held on for an impressive victory.

Mikel Merino showed his quality in the midfield but his attacking team-mates failed to deliver as Rafael Benitez’s forwards wasted several decent chances during the second half.
