A new PlayStation VR is reportedly in the works for the PS5, although it doesn’t appear it will be ready for the new console’s release date.
From what we know about the PlayStation 5, the price looks set to be around $400 mark, and the console itself will probably launch in late 2020.
None of this has been confirmed by Sony yet; however, we have plenty of supporting evidence to support the idea of a reasonably priced PS4 successor launching next year.
The tech giant will need to keep in time with Microsoft, who will be launching the Xbox Scarlett in late 2020.
And while one device could be more powerful than the other, the specs being talked about for both sounds like they will be sold at similar price points.

The PS5 will be compatible with PSVR, which is good news for headset owners looking to upgrade.
And from what we have learnt so far in 2019, a PSVR 2 is being worked on by Sony.
However, Sony’s Dominic Mallinson revealed to CNET during a recent interview that the company won’t be bombarding gamers with an array of new tech.
Explaining why the PSVR 2 probably won’t be announced alongside the PS5, Mallinson added: “There’s no reason for us to coincide it with a new console.
“From the point of view of the consumer, to be bombarded with many many things — oh, you have to buy this, you have to buy that — is a message that we don’t want to send. In some ways, it’s good to have a little breathing space between those things.”
That might come as a bit of a disappointment for some PlayStation gamers but the good news is that recent patents suggest the PSVR 2 is going to be a serious upgrade.
The new finding sourced by Inverse suggests a new device that will cost around $250 to buy and will be wireless.
This will mean a limit of several hours of battery life but the new PSVR will also pack some great new specs.
Inverse reports a 560-by-1,440 resolution, a 120-hertz refresh rate and a 220-degree field of view for PS5 gamers.
An excerpt from one filling reads: “The detection section detects the posture of a head-mounted display worn on the head of a user.
“The status determination section determines a user’s gaze direction and a binocular inclination angle in accordance with the posture of the head-mounted display, which is detected by the detection section.”
It should be noted that this all sounds like good stuff but needs to be taken with a pinch of salt for now.
Filing patent doesn’t necessarily mean that Sony will include all the features listed in their next headset.
The original PSVR has been a big enough success to warrant a follow-up but until the company confirm their plans, stats like the ones listed above will remain rumours.
It’s unclear when we will hear more about the PS5 release date but there’s a good chance more news will be shared before the end of 2019.
