Hand luggage for flights on Ryanair and easyJet needs to meet the strict cabin baggage allowance. Both low-cost carriers have strict rules on how much passengers can bring on board. With so little space available, savvy holiday packing is needed and travellers should think carefully about what to include. There’s one item that could prove highly useful – especially for a summer holiday to a hot destination.
Adam Ewart CEO of door-to-door luggage delivery service, Send My Bag, revealed how a sarong could be vital while away – for reasons you may never have considered.
Ewart explained that a sarong’s utility lies in both its lightness and how adaptable it is.
“Versatile, low-maintenance clothing is the key to packing light,” the luggage expert told Express.co.uk.
“Take a sarong for example; great for a hot day but can also be used as a changing room at the beach, a tablecloth for a picnic or a scarf if you’re chilly.
“Further uses include a makeshift satchel for your souvenirs, a pillow when you’re weary, a head scarf to protect you from the sun… the list goes on.”
Ewart urged holidaymakers to think carefully when packing: “Be inventive and pack multiple-use items,” he said.
Think about materials when it comes to other clothes you’re packing, Ewart also said.
The fabric of the clothing you bring is more important that you might think if you want to travel light.
“Consider the fabric of the clothing you’re taking and factor in its quality, thickness, weight, and texture,” he said.
“Try and whittle your selection down where possible to clothing that is durable, light, and isn’t bulky.
“Synthetic materials are often better than cotton because they’re lighter, smaller and they dry faster.”
Ryanair priority boarding passengers are currently allowed one small bag (40x20x25cm), plus a larger cabin bag (55x40x20cm) with a maximum weight allowance of 10kg into the cabin.
Those who do not have priority boarding will only be able to bring one small cabin bag on board free of charge.
As for easyJet, one cabin bag is admitted per person on board, with easyJet aircraft only allowing for 70 cabin bags in total.
EasyJet’s representatives will check the size of cabin bags before a passenger boards the plane. The maximum size allowance is 56x45x25cm (including handles and wheels).
They should be able to fit comfortably into the plane’s overhead lockers, or under the seat in front. If they don’t, they will have to be put in the hold.
