For the old Etonian Tory MP is proving a surprise hit in America where “Moggmania” appears to have spread across the pond.
Having been endorsed as a future prime minister by the National Review, the so-called “Bible of US conservatism”, the popular backbencher has also found support in an altogether more unlikely quarter.
National Public Radio (NPR), a Left-wing public radio station has also fallen for the MP’s charms, dubbing him “like a character out of Downton Abbey”.
An article on the channel’s website reads: “If Rees-Mogg sounds stuffy, he’s not. Regulars at his local pub, the Crown Inn, have nothing but kind things to say. “
Michael Davis, US commissioning editor of the Catholic Herald, said: “For all our republican pretences, we’re still searching for a royal family of our own – be it the Kennedys, the Bushes, the Clintons or the Kardashians, Jacob Rees-Mogg embodies the best of them all.”
