PUBG news: Battlegrounds studio makes SHOCK announcement in face of new competition

PUBG developer Bluehole has made a shock announcement about the future of the shooter.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Brendan Greene told Reddit users that a single-player campaign could make it into the shooter.

Asked about the future of the game and potential new features, Greene said: “I would love to add a single player campaign to the game.”

But with an Xbox One port to come and more Early Access features to add, the team currently doesn’t have time.

“I think the island we have could be a great location for an interesting story, but unfortunately we just don’t have the time or the resources for this at the moment!” he added.

Greene followed this up on Twitter, where he said that the team has no plans to add a campaign right now.

The news comes in the face of some stiff competition for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Fortnite is getting ready to add a brand new Battle Royale mode, which will be completely free of charge to all players.

The Fortnite Battle Royale mode sees 100 players fight to be the sole survivor on a huge map.

Inspired by the likes of PUBG, the free Fortnite Battle Royale update goes live on September 26.

Epic explains more: “We love Battle Royale games like PUBG and thought Fortnite would make a great foundation for our own version.

“A few months ago Epic’s Unreal Tournament team began experimenting with the mode while the original Fortnite team kept updating the core game.

“To maintain game balance we kept the PvP mode completely separate from the PvE mode. The new Battle Royale mode was so much fun we decided to share it with everyone to get feedback.”

It’s unlikely to worry PUBG too much, especially with the game just .

The Early Access game peaked with 1,349,584 players this past weekend, which beats the previous record held by DOTA 2.Β

In fact, it’s a significant step up from the 1,291,328 record set by DOTA 2 back in March 2016.

It’s especially good news for Microsoft and the Xbox One, which welcomes PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds later this year.
