Man Utd news: Romelu Lukaku won’t stop Marcus Rashford from succeeding – Shay Given

That is the view of former Newcastle-keeper-turned pundit Shay Given.

Rashford, 19, has continued to express why he is a top talent at Manchester United after an impressive display against Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup last night.

Jose Mourinho started the England international up front for the first time this season and he grabbed a brace as the they cruised to a 4-1 win at Old Trafford to book their place in the fourth.

has often been deployed as a winger by the Portuguese boss this season with Romelu Lukaku leading the attack.

It has been suggested that the arrival of Lukaku from Everton would curtail the progress of Rashford at  as he would not get as much game time.

But after scoring five goals in his opening eight games in all competitions, Given reckons this will not be the case.

“He’s a big talent of course. Mourinho said he would make four changes but he made a lot more changes tonight,” Given said on Channel 5’s Carabao Cup show.

“But Rashford…people say Lukaku might stop him being the player he is going to be…but he’s a phenomenal finisher and he’s just getting better and better.

“He come onto the scene last year and this year he just looks even stronger, growing and has filled out a bit.”

Up next for United in the Carabao Cup is a clash with Swansea on October 24.

But they will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record in all competitions on Saturday when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s (3:00pm).
