The movie, which has nothing to do with London’s E14 postcode, follows a group of canines as they help a boy find his own pet.
It’s set in a dystopian Japan, where dogs have been outlawed – but there’s no sign of Spots, the human protagonist’s four-legged best friend.
The assembled cast is enormous, boasting Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Kunichi Nomura, Greta Gerwig, Koyu Rankin, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton and Yoko Ono – among many others.
Its title has been trending on Twitter ever since the trailer was released, with tens of thousands of tweets about it.
“This isle of dogs trailer…… I can’t believe such a pure movie has been made,” quipped one user.
Another said: “There hasnt been a stop motion film that had won Best Animation at the Oscars for a long time. I hope Isle of Dogs will get the honor.”
Cranston himself said: “What an cool trailer for @IsleOfDogsMovie. Loved being a part of this!”
It hasn’t been without its controversy, however, with some referencing its lack of high-profile Asian cast members, given the fact it’s set in Japan.
“isle of dogs seems cute and visually great but you know what would be greater??? casting asian actors in bigger roles!!!!” read one tweet.
Another quipped: “Glad that Wes Anderson’s ‘Isle of Dogs’ features two of Hollywood’s most respected Asian actresses, Tilda Swinton and Scarlett Johannson.”
Isle of Dogs is out on March 30, 2018 in the UK.
