Chris Evans: Virgin Radio Breakfast Show DJ mocks Alex Jones as he discusses The One Show

Chris Evans recently invited Angela Scanlon, 35, to talk about her new show, Your Home Made Perfect, on his Virgin Radio Breakfast Show. However, the conversation quickly turned to Alex Jones, who she will soon be standing in for on The One Show. As attention turned to Angela’s team, the Irish beauty revealed her producer had begged to join her at the Virgin studios. She told the 53-year-old radio DJ he had a huge fan in her executive producer and admitted he was desperate to accompany her

Spilling all last week, she began: “I don’t want to embarrass the stylish bunch of men, glasses wearing men outside the glass.

“But they’re actually here for you Chris, not for me.”

Chiming in, Chris asked: “Are they not working for you?” to which Angela replied: “No, I mean they do. They are all involved.”

Singling out her executive producer, she added: “He’s done all the heavy lifting [on my show]”

Appearing confused by the earlier compliment, the father-of-five insisted: “So he definitely doesn’t work for us then.”

“No! But he’s a fan of Mr Evans. So he’s like, ‘I saw the press list; forget The One Show can I come to Chris Evans?’,” Angela explained.

Echoing Angela’s last words, a gleeful Chris repeated: “Forget The One Show! Alex [Jones] if you’re listening sorry about that sweetheart, but you’re having another baby soon you won’t be there for it.”

As he jokingly made the remark, Angela could be heard giggling in the background before the show cut to a short advertisement.

Angela, who has previously hosted The One Show and other programmes, will join Matt Baker, 41, on sofa in the coming weeks.

During an appearance on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch recently, the presenter spoke to hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer about returning to The One Show.

At one point, Tim asked: “Alex Jones is pregnant again. You’ve covered on The One Show for her last time, will you be going back on there?”

“She is! I will,” Angela replied. “I’m actually on The One Show tomorrow as a guest on the other side and yes I will be sitting in for her [when she goes on maternity leave].”

Elsewhere, Angellica Bell, 43, confirmed she would be filling in for Alex for a couple of weeks at the end of April.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, she revealed: “I’m covering the first three weeks of maternity leave for definite.

“I start her cover at the end of April.”

When asked whether she would be covering further shows for Alex later in the star’s maternity leave, Angellica explained: “I’ve got some other bits to do, more on the BBC and filming and stuff.

“So maybe some more later down the line but they’re cracking the whip with me on other stuff.”

Chris Evans’ Virgin Radio Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am.
