Boxing news: Dillian Whyte makes Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder claim

The British boxer had been hoping for a heavyweight title shot at either Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder, but failed to come to an agreement with either of the belt holders or even to agree a deal to fight compatriot Tyson Fury.

With fights with Luis Ortiz and Alexander Povetkin also seemingly unlikely, the Brixton heavyweight may have to settle for a less exciting bout as he bides his time.

But ‘Body Snatcher’ Whyte – who is widely ranked as the fourth-best heavyweight in the game – insists he cannot understand why he is not viewed on the same level as either WBC champion Wilder, Fury or Joshua, who owns the IBF, WBA and WBO straps.

Asked in an interview with iFLTV if he puts himself on the same level as the trio, he said: “Yep. Top four in the world baby! Fury ain’t got no belt. What belt has Fury got? Lineal heavyweight championship doesn’t exist, it’s just a title. Let’s go.

“There’s no lineal heavyweight championship. How can he be lineal heavyweight champion when he’s got no real title? That doesn’t make no sense. Come on man.

“I fought top-10 fighters while he’s been off back-to-back, legit top-10 dangerous contenders. Two world champions, one current and one former.

“When [Joseph] Parker was fighting Joshua everyone was saying he was Joshua’s biggest test, he’s dangerous, Joshua struggled, he hurt Joshua.

“I went in there and bashed him up. I got hurt too but you know, let’s be honest – it’s one thing for me and one thing for another. Why?”

Asked if he gets why Joshua, Fury and Wilder are put on a pedestal above him, he replied: “No, no, no I don’t understand. I’ve tried to fight all three of these guys. I’ve been chasing Wilder for two years. Two years, let’s go.

“He said he wanted £7m, we offered him £8m, Eddie offered him £15m. How much is he going to make to fight [Dominic] Breazeale? I’ve been No 1 contender for two years.

“Two years I’ve been trying to fight Joshua. These guys are good at tricking the public to make it look like I’m overvaluing myself and don’t want the fight.

“I’ve been trying to fight Tyson Fury for ages. To this day you know I’ve been trying to fight these guys. Eddie [Hearn] made offers. Eddie told him the plan, ‘Come back, have a warm-up fight, fight Dillian, fight [Tony] Bellew, fight Joshua, whatever.’ This is what Eddie’s telling me.

“Wilder, what can I do? He’s fought one mandatory challenger in four years. One. How can he still be champion? The guy he won the belt from, who has had one fight in two years, he fought him for it.

“I’ve been No 1 for two years. Breazeale shouldn’t even be a mandatory, he fought Eric Molina who was suspended at the time, banned because he failed a drugs test after the Joshua fight – he shouldn’t even be eligible to fight.

“He’s [Breazeale’s] No 4, I’m No 1. Who has he fought? I’ve fought back-to-back good guys, I’ve won seven or eight WBC title fights and more.

“Wilder said I’ve gotta be patient and wait, I’ve been waiting two years! S**t, I’m going to be Luis Ortiz’s age when he fights me. I’ll be 61 years old, my knees will be decrepit and old and I’ll have WD40 in my back pocket.

“Deontay Wilder knows. I’m not going in there for a boxing match, I’m going in there to beat him up and rough him up. Every time he gets hit, he’s always rocked.”
