“It just so happened that I came to the end of my contract and they weren’t going to renew it.”
Richard has also appeared in Holby City, and presented his own show on Channel 4 in 1999 titled The Richard Blackwood show.
The actor also has experience on stage, having played Brightie in Tennessee Williams play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, in 2010.
He also took the role of Donkey in the West End production of Shrek the Musical in 2011.
Richard’s professional partner on Dancing on Ice is Carlotta Edwards, who alongside her husband Alexander Demetriou are new professional ice skaters for the 2019 series.
Is Richard married? Does he have children?
It is not known whether Richard is currently dating anyone, or indeed if he is married.
The actor appeared on the Channel 4 show Celebrity First Dates in 2016, and the date did not go well.
Richard, unfortunately, got his dates name wrong, calling her Daniella instead of Diana.
Unsurprisingly Diana then turned Richard down after the date saying: “I didn’t fancy you. I didn’t feel like I liked you in that way.”
Richard has one son, named Keaun who was born in January 2001.
Dancing on Ice returns to ITV1 at 6pm on Sunday.
