Michael Schumacher latest: F1 icon’s plans for TEXAS RANCH thwarted by skiing accident

In a video unearthed days after the stricken sportsman turned 50, it revealed he purchased the sprawling ranch in the American super state where he wanted to retire and raise horses with his wife Corinna Betsch. The ranch, which was a gift to his horse-loving wife of more than 20 years, would have been a dramatic change of scenery compared to his native Germany and home in Switzerland. But tragically, the racing superstar never got a chance to live out his dream there. In a 2012 interview, he spoke of the ranch. He said: “Well, Switzerland will remain our main place of residence, but we like to come here every now and then and to enjoy the time with the horses because during certain times throughout the year big tournaments take place here and this is something Corinna would like to participate in and I would like to accompany her.”

In the interview, which has been translated from German to English, Corinna is asked what makes her happy the most.

She chillingly answered: “That we’re all going home in one piece. And that nothing has happened during this whole time.”

The interview was aired one year before he fell onto a rock and hit his head while skiing in the French Alps with his son, Mick, who was 14 at the time.

He was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries, with his doctors telling reporters at the time he would most likely have died if he had not been wearing a helmet at the time.

His condition had been kept secret, with those closest to him feeding the nation tidbits of information as and when.

In April 2014 his agent reported that he was showing “moments of consciousness” as he was gradually withdrawn from the medically induced coma. In November 2014, a German newspaper reported a source told their reporters Schumacher was paralysed and in a wheelchair.

When in December 2015 another German publication said he could “walk a couple of steps”, this was shot down by Felix Damm, a lawyer working for the sports star, who said simply that his client “cannot walk”.

The follow year, his manager said that “Michael’s health is not a public issue, and so we will continue to make no comment in that regard”.
