However, he battled back from this setback sooner than expected and re-signed for the Red Devils on a one-year deal.
The Swede has been stepping up his recovery from surgery and showed this to the masses when he posted a video of him running again on Instagram.
And he has now offered another update on his potential Manchester United return by outlining his knee is close to being fully repaired.
“The knee is almost there. I want everybody to have patience,” Zlatan Ibrahimovic said.

And the Belgium international has himself that he is not willing to give up his place in the starting line up without a fight.
Lukaku, 24, said: “I don’t fear the competition or Zlatan. He will help us in our goal of winning the title and we need his personality.
“He will bring many qualities to the team, and help us in our goal of winning the title. I don’t fear the competition as a striker, or Zlatan.
“Things are going really well for me at United, the pre-season was good and it helped knowing a lot of the players before arriving.
“The manager has helped me a lot to settle quickly, so it has all been very positive.
“I am now with a coach that I have wanted to play with for a long time, since I was 11 years of age. And with him we are looking to do something special.”
