West Ham news: Jamie Carragher jokes Sam Allardyce could replace Slaven Bilic TONIGHT

That is what Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher joked tonight.

Carragher was joined on Monday Night Football by Sam Allardyce for West Ham’s home game with Huddersfield.

At half time the pair were discussing Andy Carroll’s performance so far and how long Bilic can leave him on, considering he had not played since last season due to injury.

But Carragher, who played with Carroll at Liverpool, got his words a bit mixed up and confused the two managers.

He was asked by presenter David Jones: “Has Slaven Bilic got a decision to make on how long he keeps him (Carroll) on now?”

Carragher replied: “He has. Sam knows, I know, I’ve played with him.

“His injury record isn’t great but he has been a handful today.

“And Sam Allardyce now.” Jamie Carragher stopped in his tracks as he meant to say Bilic, with his mistake causing fits of laughter in the studio.

“But you never know if Slaven gets beat tonight,” he added.

Allardyce responded: “Steady on!”

Allardyce, who managed West Ham between 2011 and 2015, had earlier revealed he spoke to another of his former club’s Crystal Palace today but confirmed he did not want the job made vacant by the sacking of Frank de Boer this morning.

“Just to make it clear to everybody and to stop the speculation, I spoke to Steve (Parish) late this afternoon just before I got here actually,” Sam Allardyce said.

“I said ‘for me I wouldn’t be ready to come back’.

“I made a decision and I wouldn’t feel comfortable at this moment in time at taking any position as a football manager as I’m enjoying my life too much at the moment watching everybody else with the pressures of the Premier League.”
