Dame June Whitfield has died, aged 93, her agent has confirmed.
Her agent said she died peacefully on Friday night.
The star is best known for appearing in Absolutely Fabulous as the mother of Edina Monsoon, played by Jennifer Saunders.
Stars from stage and screen rushed to social media to send their condolences to the late star.
Rory Bremner posted: “RIP June Whitfield- go-to comedy actress for 3 generations, from 60s radio to 70s, 80s, even 90s TV. Always graceful & elegant with a real comic glint in her eye & (absolutely) fabulous timing.”

Dame June also starred in her own sitcom alongside pal Terry Scott called Terry and June.
Her show with Terry began in 1979 and ran for eight years.
She also appeared in a number of TV and radio features including the Carry On films.
At 89 years old Dame June appeared on BBC’s EastEnders as Sister Ruth.
During the storyline she was involved in, it was revealed Sister Ruth had a secret which she kept from the residents of Albert Square.
