School term dates 2019: When do schools go back after New Year’s Day?

Pupils in the UK are still on their Christmas break enjoying some time off from homework and early wake-up calls. Most schools ended the term on Wednesday, December 19, which means schoolchildren have been off since December 20. So when will they go back to school?

When do schools go back after New Year’s Day?

School holiday dates can vary depending on which part of the country you live in, but most children will start the new term on Wednesday, January 2.

Can you take your children on holiday during term time?

Schoolchildren are not allowed to go on holiday during term time and can only miss school if they are ill.

If parents decide to take their children out of school a £60 fine will be issued.

The fine will surge to a whopping £120 if not paid after 21 days.

Previously it was allowed to take ten days of authorised absence.
