Gary Barlow tour: Take That star breaks silence on 2019 gigs after ‘family illness’ shock

Gary Barlow said he wanted to “clarify” an earlier interview in view of his 381,000 Instagram followers today. The Take That hitmaker confirmed the band’s concerts closer to home were going ahead as planned, saying they have “never been in question”. The 47-year-old said he “couldn’t wait” to see fans when the tour kicks off on April 12 in Sheffield. The singer, one third of the group alongside Howard Donald and Mark Owen, previously cited an “illness in the family” for the likely cancellations further afield.

Gary started: “Just for clarity RE my Instagram Live the other day, I was talking about it now looking unlikely we will be playing shows outside of Europe.”

He continued: “At the moment it’s going to be difficult to take our Odyssey Tour to our fans in Australia, Asia and South America as hoped.

“But I can assure our UK and European dates are 100 per cent going ahead and have never been in question. We can’t wait to see you!”

It comes just hours after he caused a stir as he addressed the events in an interview with the Daily Mirror.

He commented: “We had a big ambition next year to do a world tour, but I have actually got an illness in my family and it means I am not going to travel for the next two years extensively.

“So all the plans for South America and Australia that were coming off…”

Gary said Mark and Howard had been “understanding” as he thanked them for supporting the decision.

“I thank my two bandmates who have been so very understanding, but I just have to be at home – I cannot leave,” he went on.

“I didn’t want people getting frustrated that we’re not getting out there. I’m a little stuck at the moment, so please be understanding.”

At the moment Take That’s run of shows will end in Switzerland in June next year, after travelling to the likes of Germany, Austrian and Italy.

Gary will now have more time to write a movie with Sir Tim Rice, 74.

He revealed the idea of the film will be set on a cruise ship and admitted it was originally intended to be a musical.

A few weeks ago, Gary performed onstage with his bandmates during The X Factor final, where Robbie Williams joined them.

Following their set, the Angels crooner confirmed there’s a possibility he could join them on tour.

He told Planet Radio: “As long as we stay healthy, I’m sure there’ll be another moment where we all get together.

“Maybe we can coax Jason back, who knows? We shall have to see. But definitely, definitely in the future. We will all ride again.”
