PlayStation 5 news: Great news for Sony as fans get PS5 release update

Sony’s PlayStation 4 console range has gone from strength-to-strength over the past few years.

This is partly down to the lineup of PS4 games that have been made exclusively available on Sony’s gaming machines.

And the good news is that more are on the way for the PS5 release date.

There are a lot of rumoured games projects in the works for the PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Scarlett console.

Fans are hoping a new Gran Turismo game will be released on the PS5, possibly as a launch year title.

The series creator Kazunori Yamauchi recently talked up what could be coming next and also offered some interesting insight.

Yamauchi reportedly told Finder.com: “It takes six months to create a single car.

“It’s over-specced for PS4 Pro. So we are building for future versions of the console rather than the one we see today. I think it would be no problem to run it at 8K even.”

This came around the same time as the annual Inter BEE conference in Tokyo, where Sony showcased some impressive new tech.

This included a new “Crystal LED Display” TV known, which is now known as CLEDIS and can apparently deliver 120FPS and true 8K.

The footage appeared to include content closely resembling Gran Turismo Sport and made for quite the spectacle.

However, it seems unlikely that Sony would be able to mass produce a machine that could include these specs.

But what it does suggest is that a Gran Turismo project could be ready for the PlayStation 5 launch and will offer upgraded visuals.

Fans are still waiting for a solid announcement regarding the PS5 release date, although it appears Sony is priming for some big news in 2019.

We already know that Sony PlayStation will not be attending E3 2019 and are instead focusing on their own events.

Changing things would make sense if they were getting ready to reveal something new, like what they did with the PS4 Pro.

The timing of E3 in June might not work for their own release schedule, although this remains speculation at this time.

There has also been some surprising news from Sony, that serves as another potential hint for now.

It comes from a conversation on Twitter and is in connection with the lack of first-party PlayStation announcements during The Game Awards.

Sony PlayStation’s Shawn Layden was added into a comment regarding the lack of PS4 news and the hope that something is being primed for an announcement soon.

Layden replied to this by simply adding: “See you in the new year.”

While this might not be directly connected with the reveal of the PS5, it would fit in nicely with the rumours currently doing the rounds.

Sony will reportedly host at least two events during 2019, one before E3 2019.

It follows news that Sony has scored another sales hit in 2018, away from the PS4 brand.

The new PlayStation Classic retro console has reportedly sold over 120,000 units in Japan during its first week.

This isn’t a shabby number considering the amount of competition such a product faces during this time of year.

It should be noted, however, that this falls short of what other classic consoles have achieved during a similar period.

Nintendo’s SNES Classic reportedly sold 369,000 units in Japan over four days, meaning the PS Classic probably won’t reach the sales heights of its retro rivals.

However, with the recent hype surrounding the PS5 release date still swirling around Sony, it appears there’s plenty of new PlayStation reveals to look forward to in 2018.
